Maple apple compote
INGREDIENTS :
- 8 apples (Mclntosh or Cortland preferred)
- 60 ml (4 tbsp) maple syrup
- 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) cinnamon, if desired
- Core and core the apples, cut into quarters
PREPARATION :
- Over medium-low heat, cook apples, and maple syrup covered in a saucepan until the apples break down, stirring occasionally, especially in the first few minutes. If necessary, continue cooking uncovered to help the water evaporate.
- Cooking time : from 30 to 40 min. depending on the firmness of the fruit which varies somewhat during the season.
- Add the cinnamon. Taste and adjust the amount of sugar if necessary (some apples are more tart and it will be better to add a little more syrup). Stir and it's ready.
- Let cool slightly and refrigerate. Keeps for 2 weeks in the fridge. The compote can be frozen or canned.
