The best beaches in Canada
On the West Coast
Long Beach British Columbia
This beach is on Wickaninnish Bay in Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is located between Ucluelet and Tofino, and it is easily accessible from these two cities.
Long Beach is 16 km of sandy beach, on the ground strewn with driftwood trunks, against a backdrop of mountains and humid forests.
It is the largest and longest of the beaches in Pacific Rim Park.
Its waves are powerful, summer and winter alike. It's also a great place to walk, especially on the bog trail. Swimming is only permitted in summer and under close supervision for children. Water activities are open in summer only: kayaking, surfing or even sunbathing. It is noted that whales can be spotted offshore in spring and summer.
In winter, visitors who have defied the bans will be greeted by a dangerous spectacle: breaking waves, walls of mist and violent winds.
Chesterman beach British Columbia
This W-shaped beach still stands in Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is accessible in about ten minutes from the city of Tofino.
While its golden sand invites relaxation, proceed with caution if you want to swim in the ocean. The Pacific waters here are quite cold.
Visitors like to observe the particularly impressive weather during storms. You can also see whales offshore, go surfing and walking. In the center of Chesterman beach, there is a private island - Frank Island - to which access is only authorized if you agree to respect the place. Lucky visitors will have the chance to observe some of the most beautiful natural pools at low tide on Vancouver Island. There are also some in south and north Chesterman, although a little less spectacular.
All around, you can see very beautiful houses. Chesterman Beach is also the resort of wealthy tourists who settle in the chic and famous seaside resort to its north, the Wickaninnish Inn.
On the lakes
Shaka Lake Beach on the shores of Lake Shaka
It is in southern British Columbia, not far from the border with the United States. It is a brown sand beach in a serene and beautiful setting. Its water temperature is mild.
The surroundings are landscaped, it is the Shaka Lake Park. The lakeside was thus developed to encourage visits and outdoor activities. It is a perfect place for families with children: there is everything for everyone to have a good time.
The Shaka Lake Park is home to an unusual object not to be missed if you are passing through. This is the Skaha Solar Timepiece, an analemmatic sundial that measures time based on the position of the sun.
Grand Bend Beach, Ontario
This beach is open for swimming in summer. In high season, it is very busy, especially on weekends. We come here mainly to spend time with family: everything is arranged to make it a family destination. If the prices of the surrounding shops and businesses are a little expensive, the whole remains clean and very well supplied. There are many shops, restaurants and facilities (showers and public toilets) designed for visitors near Grand Bend beach.
However, the waters are quite cold. If you are chilly, it is better to equip yourself with a combination. Water shoes should also be provided for sensitive feet. It is also noted that the water gets deep pretty quickly. It is therefore essential that bathing children always take place under the close supervision of adults.
Wasaga beach in Georgian Bay
This beach is located at the southern end of Georgian Bay, Ontario, 2 hours north of Toronto. Its long sandy beach stretches across Nottawasaga Bay and offers views of the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere.
It is the longest freshwater beach on the planet. It is divided into several zones, more or less lively. Its rather pleasant waters are shallow. It is a place suitable for everyone, with or without children.
Some areas have facilities for visitors. There is at least one sandy beach where dogs are accepted and can swim. The different areas of the beach can be quite crowded in summer.
On the East coast
Hopewell Rocks Beach
New Brunswick is home to this site of great beauty, as only nature can do. Hopewell Rocks Beach is open from mid-May to October. It is on the other hand completely closed in winter, because nature is very dangerous during this season.
At low tide, you can take a walk along the beach. It's a 1+ mile ride meandering through several creeks and rock formations. These are marine stacks, rock formations caused by erosion by the rise and fall of the tides. At high tide, these formations become small islands surrounded by water, it's a truly unique sight.
The ideal is to see both, because both are spectacular. It is thought to inquire on the website before visiting, also because the tide rises quickly. It is therefore necessary to anticipate your visit well. It will also be necessary to wear shoes that are easy to clean so that they do not end up in the trash!
The beaches of the Magdalen Islands (Magdalen Islands)
The Magdalen Islands - locally called the Maggies - are an archipelago off Prince Edward Island in Quebec. These are 12 main islands and a multitude of beaches that stretch over 300 km. The landscape of the islands is made up of white sand beaches, caves nestled in the rocks and red sandstone cliffs.
Thanks to the calm weather, vacationers can enjoy the islands even in winter. The beaches sheltered from the wind are the most pleasant for swimming. On the other hand, in case of strong wind, it will be necessary to avoid swimming almost everywhere
A world event is organized there that attracts many tourists and artists: the annual sandcastle competition.
