Furthermore, the beaver is also called “the engineer of nature”, because of its great activity.
Moose
A rather unusual name for an animal. The original, found in certain regions of Canada, is a deer measuring more than 1.8 meters tall. Being one of the largest of its species, it is a very popular animal in the country.
In fact, boreal forests and wetlands are full of them. For information, the original weighs between 360 and 725 kg, and is distinguished by the enormous antler it carries on its head. A wood that can reach up to 1.5 meters in width.
Furthermore, the originals also have great power. Capable of overturning medium-sized tree trunks with just their wood, they know how to protect themselves from the most threatening predators.
The originals also move easily in water. Very good swimmers, they are capable of diving meters deep to seek out nature in lakes.
Polar bear
The Canadian polar bear is an emblematic species of the country. Living mainly near the oceans, where the temperature is low, the animal is distinguished by its color and its way of life.
The scientific name of the polar bear is Ursus maritimus which means sea bear. In Canada, it is very protected, because it is increasingly threatened by global warming. Indeed, the polar bear's natural habitat is deteriorating at a worrying rate.
Bison
Among the emblematic animals of Canada is also the bison. A symbol of strength and determination, he is one of the great survivors of the ice age.
Indeed, the bison is distinguished by its massive head. Which allows it to clear snow and brush. Imposing, the animal weighs around 900 kg, and is very fast. It can cover up to 65 km in just one hour.
Note that the number of bison in Canada has declined considerably in recent decades. Formerly 30 million, there are now only 1,000 individuals in the territory. No other species on the planet has experienced such a sharp decline.

In fact, many First Nations communities protect the animal to ensure its continued existence. In fact, the killer whale is an endangered species. On the seas surrounding the Canadian coasts, only a few hundred individuals remain.
Good to know: the decrease in the number of killer whales can be explained by human activities and the climate.
Walrus
Known to be one of the largest species in the country, the walrus is one of Canada's emblematic animals. It is recognized by its impressive mustaches and its disproportionate ivory tusks.
In Canada, the animal lives mainly in the Low Arctic, the High Arctic, and the central Arctic. They live in small populations, and are sensitive to climate variations.
Furthermore, the ivory tusks of walruses are what allow them to break through the ice floe to escape cold waters. This part of their body also serves to protect themselves and can reach up to a meter in length.
Caribou
The Canadian Caribou is a very popular species in the country. Indeed, it is distinguished by its long antlers and its way of life. This dramatic decline can be explained by caribou hunts which have lasted for several thousand years. Serving as food and clothing for indigenous peoples, the animal saw its population halved in just a few decades.
