Focus on the Labranche estate “maple grove, orchard and vineyard”
Go on an adventure by discovering the Roussillon estate in Quebec.
It develops with the generations, and has been run for eight generations by the Desgroseilliers family. At first a simple agricultural operation, he then extended his maple syrup activity, an orchard, a cider house and a vineyard.
The history of the Labranche estate
The history of this estate begins with the arrival of Médard Chouart Desgroseilliers on Canadian soil. This mythical character would have contributed to the Hudson's Bay Company during the 17th century.
Nearly a century later, his great-grandson, Joseph Prosper, chose to settle with his family, not far from Saint-Isidore in Montérégie, in the Roussillon region. He goes into farming. It is from Joseph Prosper that the Desgroseilliers line will inherit its passion for working the land. The family farm will then diversify its activities over time. In the 20th century, it began producing maple syrup. It was more precisely in the 1920s that Willie Desgroseilliers started the maple syrup business, mainly for the needs of the family and a few local grocery stores.
As demand grew, he ended up having a sugar shack built in the maple grove. This place of conviviality which will bring together relatives and friends alone represents the spirit of the Desgroseilliers family.
The Domaine Labranche was created in 2009. It still offers products made from maple syrup, but also cider and products from the vineyard. It was also during this same year that the first vines were planted on the estate. The spirit remains innovative, reckless and pioneering!
The generation in charge of the Labranche estate continues to advocate responsible production. She opts for the use of local foodstuffs. Chemical and aggressive fertilizers and pesticides are not welcome on the farm, for the sake of preserving the ecosystem and the environment. We prefer the use of more ecological solutions.
The estate has another significant advantage: it is surrounded by the lands of Purdélys, also owned by the Desgroseilliers. This parameter makes it possible to minimize contamination from the outside and to safeguard all production.
Initially a subsistence activity, the farm is now more oriented towards consumers and their satisfaction. The range offered by the estate consists of original products that perfectly reflect the spirit of the terroir. The quality is respected.
A place to discover
Conviviality is at the heart of Les Groseilliers' concerns and this is reflected in their Premium quality products. Consumers thus continue to appreciate and savor them with passion.
We also find this hospitality in their welcome and in the activities offered on the estate.
Its doors are open to tourists who can follow a trail around the sugar bush. To continue this visit, go to the evaporator to discover the techniques for making maple syrup products.
During the weekends, the establishment also offers sleigh rides. During the organic apple season, visitors can also participate in self-picking in the orchard. Children can take advantage of this opportunity to discover the fruit trees. They will learn about different varieties of apples including the Royal Gala, the Paulared or the Honeycrisp. They will also be able to take advantage of the games module in the operation. Adults can enjoy tasting maple-based wines.
The establishment also has a restaurant in its sugar shack, but it is only accessible by reservation. On the menu, various Canadian dishes such as ears of crisse, grilled meats, pancakes... And to stay true to tradition, you can also taste taffy on snow or maple products.
Since 2017, we have also offered a unique concept: the Apple Shack! The principle is similar to that of the sugar shack, but the apple is valued instead of the Maple syrup. The apple shack menu consists of various fruits and vegetables in addition to organic apples from the estate.
