Maple apple compote
INGREDIENTS :
- 8 apples (preferably Mclntosh or Cortland)
- 60 ml (4 tbsp) of Maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) cinnamon, if desired
- Pearl and core the apples, cut into quarters
PREPERATION :
- Over medium-low heat, cook the apples, and Maple syrup covered in a saucepan until the apples fall apart, stirring occasionally, especially in the first few minutes. If necessary, continue cooking uncovered to promote water evaporation.
- Cooking time : 30 to 40 min. depending on the firmness of the fruits which varies somewhat during the season.
- Add the cinnamon. taste and adjust the amount of sugar if necessary (some apples are more tart and it will be preferable to add a little more syrup). Stir and it's ready.
- Let cool down a bit and refrigerate. Keeps for 2 weeks in the fridge. The compote can be frozen or canned.
