Canadian Chicken Wok - Recipe
This Canadian sweet and savory chicken recipe is as original as it is delicious. We add a nice dose of maple syrup - one of the best Canadian products - to add sweetness and a little nutty taste. Don't like corn kernels? You can easily replace it with other vegetables, like snow peas or green beans.
Ingredients for 5 people
- ½ kg chicken (needles or breast)
- 1 large onion
- 1 large leek
- 1 can of sweet corn kernels
- 3 tablespoons of Maple syrup
- Vegetable oil
- Soy sauce
- A pinch of Espelette pepper powder
- 1 pinch of oregano
- Salt pepper seasoning
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
This recipe requires approximately 10 minutes of preparation and 25 minutes of cooking.
Recipe steps
Cut your chicken breasts into small squares. If you used needles, you will not need to cut them into smaller pieces. In a bowl, mix one part soy sauce to two parts maple syrup. Adjust the quantities according to the strength of flavor you want. Mix well and then add the chicken pieces to the bowl. Leave to marinate for a few minutes.
Clean the leek and prepare it. Then cut it into thin strips. Peel the onion and slice it. If you like coriander, take the opportunity to wash a beautiful bunch. Once dry, roughly chop your aromatic herb.
Heat the oil in a pan. Once it is hot enough, brown the chicken pieces. Once the chicken is browned on all sides and then add the chopped onion. Add the leek, oregano and two tablespoons of soy sauce. Cook for about 10 minutes over medium heat and stir regularly. Add the Espelette pepper.
In the meantime, open the can of corn and allow it to drain. After 10 minutes of cooking, add the remaining maple syrup to the pan and stir well. Then pour the corn on top and let heat for five minutes.
Place the chopped coriander on a plate so that everyone can sprinkle it on their plate as they wish.
What to serve Canadian chicken wok with?
Rice is one of the best accompaniments for this type of dish. A simple bowl of white rice can be enough, but you can also opt for brown rice, which is more complete. Noodles are also a good choice to accompany this dish. You can simply cook them in water or steam them.
Are you paying attention to your carbohydrate intake? Do you know cauliflower rice? These are simply the white parts of the cauliflower that have been reduced into very small pieces, ideally with a food processor. Season the cauliflower before cooking it for 15 minutes in the microwave or in a pan.
For gluten-free noodles, you can try zucchini noodles. Cut your zucchini into long thin sticks and season them before lightly sautéing them. Sprinkle them with sesame seeds and drizzle a teaspoon of sesame oil on top before serving.
