Maple lollipops
To brighten up everyday life during the holiday seasons, we often look for ideas for treats that will please children as well as adults. In Canada, you can find maple syrup lollipops, typical treats of the country. These are traditional sweets that appeal to young and old alike. Let's discover the recipe in this section.
History of the recipe
Let's return to the history of maple syrup, because it is the main Canadian ingredient in this preparation. Long ago, on a cold winter morning, an Iroquois warrior named "Woksis" went hunting. He retrieved his tomahawk stuck in a tree. This was without realizing that he had made a deep cut in the birch bark. A container was placed at the foot of the tree. It was used to collect maple sap. Believing it to be ordinary water, Woksis' wife used it for the game stew. As they tasted it, they were surprised by the delicious flavor of the meal. The woman dipped her finger in the stew that simmered throughout the afternoon. The latter had a nice sweet flavor. This is how we discovered maple syrup.
Ingredients and preparation
To prepare these maple lollipops, you need:
- Preparation time: 10 minutes;
- Cooking time: 10 minutes
- Number of servings: 36 lollipops.
Ingredients
- A tablespoon of butter at room temperature;
- Two tablespoons of white corn syrup;
- 500 ml of maple syrup;
- 1.25 ml of crème de tarte;
- 36 sticks;
- A pinch of salt.
Preparation
Brush the inside of your pan with butter to prevent the maple syrup from boiling over. In your saucepan, place the corn syrup, crème de tarte and salt. Bring to a boil without covering. Then cook until the temperature reaches 137°C. Do not stir the mixture during cooking. Spray the lollipop molds with cooking spray and pour in your mixture. Place the sticks. Leave to set at constant room temperature. If you don't have lollipop molds, just leave the sticks on a sheet of parchment paper. Pour a small portion of the maple mixture onto each of the sticks.
